Mountain summer on the Wurzeralm

The Wurzeralm is the perfect base for plenty of hikes for every level of fitness. For instance, you could go on a hike to the Stubwieswipfel, the Rote Wand or the 2,388 metre-high Warscheneck summit. But you can also go on a circular hike across lush green meadows, a harsh carst landscape and around the raised bog – experience nature at its most pristine! The Wurzeralm cable car conveniently takes you up to 1,400 metres above sea level.

Did you know? The Wurzeralm has the largest raised bog in the eastern Kalkalpen area.

Tip: If you’re looking for a bit of thrill, you should climb the via ferrata up to the Warscheneck. From the Frauenkar mountain station and across the south eastern ridge, it will take you about 1.5 hours to get to the summit.

There’s a true highlight waiting for all mountain bikers and freeriders on the Wurzeralm: A five-kilometre-long single track leads from the Almdorf (at 1,400 m) across 600 metres of difference in altitude down to the cable car valley station. You’ll be passing meadows and forests as well as moderately difficult terrain, but rocks and roots are mostly off the trail.

Good to know: The trail is covered with crushed sand which makes it weatherproof.

Winter experiences on the Wurzeralm

Where in summer the alpine flowers are blooming, in winter 22 kilometres of perfectly groomed slopes await you. A total of eight lifts take you from the valley up into the ski resort. Skiers can look forward to ten easy (blue), ten medium-difficulty (red) and two difficult (black) slopes. And in case that’s not enough, there are also two race tracks: a permanent race track and the Schwarzeck race track.

For the little ski bunnies, the Sunny Kids Park is THE highlight. That’s where tomorrow’s pros get to hone their skills – upon request, under the supervision of professional ski instructors of the Wurzeralm ski school.

Ski tourers get to enjoy a signposted ascent trail along the valley descent. It’s usually open from 8:30 to 17:00. Additionally, during winter season 2018/2019: Every Wednesday and on days with a full moon, ski touring is possible until 22:00 in the evening.

Fans of cross-country skiing feel right at home on the Wurzeralm as well. The 4.6 kilometre-long sunny Wurzeralm high-altitude trail with guaranteed snow leads you through the valley bog and raised bog Teichlboden – breath-taking views of the stunning scenery at the base of the Warscheneck mountain included.
